High School Receiver Pulls Off Incredible ‘Catch Of The Year’ Candidate From His Back

Strap in kids because Trill Williams is about to take you on a wild ride. What seemed like a play doomed for disaster instantly transformed into a more than strong candidate for “Catch of the Year.” And we’re still not sure how he pulled it off.

We take you to last week’s state Catholic championship football game between New York schools Stepinac and Canisius. Trill Williams was running a deep route towards the end zone when he tripped at the 6-yard line. The Stepinac senior slid and stretched into the end zone and somehow the football found him. Despite falling, Williams, a running back/cornerback, had the focus to reel in this incredible “Play of the Year” candidate for a 21-yard touchdown. “I tripped and then I looked up and saw the ball coming right to me,” Williams said. ” ‘Oh, this is a gift.’ I put my hands up and it just fell to me.”

The Syracuse commit caught three touchdowns, boasted 141 yards of total offense, and intercepted a pass to power Stepinac’s 49-28 victory over Canisius 49-28. This was Stepinac’s second-straight state championship, but Williams missed last year’s season with a torn ACL. “As seniors, this is how we want to go out. This is how we want to be remembered,” said Williams. “We’re the second Stepinac team to win a state championship. We go down as legends.”

The improbable catch was so unbelievable that it made the top spot on ESPN’s Top 10 plays over the weekend and it was more than worthy.
