Iowa’s Offense Catches Brutal Stray In 97-Year-Old Fan’s Obituary

Iowa’s football team is currently sporting a 6-2 record in spite of the anemic offense that has been the target of a ton of mockery over the past few seasons. The Hawkeyes need all the help they can get on that side of the ball, and the family of a deceased fan used her obituary to try to send some positive vibes their way.

The Iowa Hawkeyes haven’t posted a losing record since the 2012 campaign, but they can largely credit their defense for their success since Brian Ferentz (the son of longtime coach Kirk Ferentz) replaced Greg Davis as the team’s offensive coordinator in 2017.

The Hawkeyes averaged a paltry 17.7 points per game in 2022, and prior to the start of the current college football season, the younger Ferentz inked a new contract with a unique stipulation that stated the team needed to average a minimum of 25 if he wanted to keep his job.

Unfortunately, that failed to turn things around in Iowa City, and while the Hawkeyes have already punched their ticket to a bowl (and are still in the hunt to represent their side of the conference in the Big Ten Championship Game), Ferentz announced he’ll be stepping down at the end of the year.

Plenty of Iowa fans are understandably frustrated with the current state of affairs, and it would appear that included Dr. B Eleanor Anstey, who passed away at the age of 97 on October 25th.

While Anstey requested a brief obituary, her family penned a heartfelt tribute that included a hilarious final line that reads:

“In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice or simply say a prayer for the Iowa Hawkeyes offense on her behalf.”

Based on what’s transpired so far, the offense will need some divine intervention to reverse course, so the request certainly doesn’t hurt.
