Krystal Blum is employed as the Director of Marketing and Events for the We Will Collective, which serves as the primary NIL arm for Iowa State. She is sick and tired of the anonymous trolls on the internet. Especially those who have an affinity for the Cyclones’ biggest rival.
Her frustration ultimately proved lucrative for the university.
Krystal works alongside her husband, Brent, who took over as the Executive Director of We Will Collective when it first came to exist in July of 2022. His job is to help student-athletes at his alma mater earn their full potential through Name, Image and Likeness. Collectives today also serve as the financial foundation for recruiting. The Blums are at the forefront of those efforts because money fuels success.
Even though most people would not know that they or their roles exist, Krystal and Brent are extremely important figures in the state of Iowa. Cyclones fans love them. Hawkeyes fans hate them.
A large part of that hatred stems from Brent’s antics on social media. He is very vocal. His posts often rile up the other in-state fanbase. It happens.
Unfortunately, a lot of that backlash was directed toward his wife.
Krystal Blum offered a simple request to the greater public on social media earlier this week. She hopes for less negativity.
If you are coming to the internet to troll people and spew negativity, you are the problem. Look in the mirror before you rant on the internet.

The post completely backfired. As you might expect, people were even more rude in response to her plea for kindness.
This is exactly what I’ll talking about. So glad my mid size body is a “fat wife”. Have 2 children and then come talk to me. Also, I’m not paid by the collective. Get your facts straight first and get a life! https://t.co/0dxNrOhdI3

Blum refused to back down.
Sorry your burner has no followers… Can someone with any dignity tell me why someone feels the need hide behind a burner account? https://t.co/2jrLs1AKZm

Brent also chimed in with a simple request.
This is unacceptable. Please have a little decency. Come after me if you feel the need, I chose to be a public figure. My wife is off limits.

He could not wrap his head around the personal attack.
I know this person wants attention and he or she is getting it. But when did it become acceptable to say horrible and untrue things about people just because we help Iowa State try to be competitive and you root for another school? What a world. https://t.co/enfWhL345M

Not long thereafter, a separate troll account run by a proud Iowa fan immediately blocked Krystal Blum on X after she called him out. Soft.

Anybody who spends any time on the internet knows that it is best to just ignore the anonymous accounts, known as burners, to deprive them of the attention they so crave. They want you to acknowledge their existence. They will keep coming back if you do.
It was silly for Krystal to fuel the fire. She invited the trolls to come back.
However, the hostile exchange on social media paid off in a big way. Literally. Iowa State fans flooded the We Will Collective with donations to show their support.
Yup, time to rally up the support train pic.twitter.com/k14DoRNTCL

Brent was grateful for the fanbase’s response.
I’m proud of a lot of things in the NIL work Iowa State has done in 3 years, but nothing I’m more proud of than @KrystalBlum. She loves these athletes and would do anything for them. If this crazy college athletics space has taught me anything is that I’m one lucky dude. https://t.co/NAGJ8PKE7j

Some things that start poorly end well. This is one of those things. Krystal Blum does not deserve to be treated with such hostility. Iowa State fans rallied around her and took it to Iowa!
