Florida State wide receiver Squirrel White did not die during the field storm at Virginia. Although we do not have an official update on his status, he was able to walk away from the extremely dangerous situation under his own power and did not appear to be severely injured.
Any other reports, either on Facebook or X, are untrue.
There is a lot of misinformation going around on the internet in regard to the wildest field storm in college football history. White is, at the very least, okay.
Who is Squirrel White?
White, whose legal name is Marquarius, started his career with three seasons at Tennessee. He transferred to Florida State during the offseason prior to his senior year.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound wide receiver wears No. 4 for the Seminoles.
Thomas Castellanos was hoping to connect with him on the final play of the game against the Hoos. White actually had a step on his defender in the end zone but his quarterback under threw the ball off of his back foot while trying to avoid a sack. It was a prayer. It was not answered.
Virginia upset No. 8-ranked Florida State at home in double overtime by a final score of 46-38. Students were on the field as soon as the ball hit the ground.
The field storm is already being labeled as the fastest and most insane field storm of all-time, which put players on both teams at risk of being trampled. That was especially true for White. Blink and he was gone. The students completely overtook him in the corner of the end zone within seconds, if that.

Fortunately, he was wearing a helmet and shoulder pads. It was still very scary.
Did the Florida State wide receiver get trampled during the field storm?
A video posted by the Cavaliers shows Squirrel White get swallowed up by the storm.

Social media raised immediate concern for the wellbeing of the wide receiver wearing No. 4. However, one post — with more than one million views as of this writing — wrongly declared him as dead.
White is okay!
I don’t know what happened during the first 24 seconds of the storm but he was back on his feet and (mostly) out of harm’s way much sooner than I had anticipated. Michael Barker, aka @CFBCampusTour, captured the following POV video of the students’ storm.

You can see White on his feet and walking around at the 32-second mark.

Barker’s video also shows an incredible moment involving a pair of Virginia defensive backs. Donovan Platt jumped on top of Ja’Son Prevard to protect him from the storm but Squirrel White was too far away. He was left to fend for himself. It appears as though he is okay.
