There are plenty of words you could use to describe the state of a New England Patriots team that is currently down the baddest it’s been in this millennium, and Jabrill Peppers didn’t mince his while acknowledging the sorry state of the franchise when he linked up with Saquon Barkley following his team’s loss to the Giants.

Everyone knew the New England Patriots were facing an uphill battle in the wake of the departure of Tom Brady, but I don’t think there are many people who predicted they’d struggled as much as they have since the legendary QB left Foxborough.

After all, the team was still able to take advantage of the coaching prowess of Bill Belichick, although it’s pretty hard to argue he hasn’t tarnished his legacy based on what’s transpired this year.

The Patriots are firmly in the basement of the AFC East with the 2-9 record they’re sporting as of this writing (only the Cardinals and the Panthers have had a more dismal campaign), and at this point, it seems like the only real positive takeaway from this year will be the high draft pick they’ll almost certainly be getting when everything was said and done—or it would be if they hadn’t traded it away.

Sunday’s matchup between the Patriots and the Giants featured one quarterback who didn’t expect to see much action this season (Tommy DeVito) and one who seemingly has no business having a starting job in the NFL (Mac Jones), and when everything was said and done, New York walked away with the 10-7 victory.

After the game, Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers got the chance to reunite with Saquon Barkley, and he “complimented” his former teammate by stating “You lucky we a–” while embracing the running back.

Peppers did go on to apologize for creating an unnecessary distraction, but it’s hard to think of a better way to sum up the situation in New England right now.
