Jalen Milroe’s first year as the starting quarterback at the University of Alabama has been a rollercoaster thus far, but one important thing continues to remain consistent — his character. By all accounts, the 20-year-old sophomore is a fantastic guy.

The Crimson Tide began the year with a home loss to the Longhorns in Week 2. Jalen Milroe threw two picks.

Due to a promise that he made each of his quarterbacks prior to the season, and the poor play against Texas, Nick Saban went to Ty Simpson and Tyler Buchner for Week 3 against USF. Milroe did not play in the stressful win.

However, multiple videos from the narrow two-score road victory displayed tremendous leadership. Milroe spent the entire game standing on the sideline, rather than sitting on the bench, and was the first person to encourage Simpson and Buchner as they struggled through the afternoon.

Saban later cited Milroe’s attitude during the game as a big factor in his return to the starting job for Week 4. (That, and terrible play from the other two, but that’s beside the point.)

Alabama has rattled off five-straight wins since Milroe returned to the top of the depth chart. It will not play this weekend as the bye week provides some much-needed rest and recovery.

Jalen Milroe is still being an awesome dude.

Even though the Crimson Tide aren’t playing, Milroe continues to be a leader. A story posted to ‘The University of Alabama Parents’ group on Facebook this week shows who he is.

My daughter is a Strength & Conditioning intern for Alabama Athletics. This morning a little after 6:00 she was moving some heavy boxes out onto one of the practice fields to get set up for her teams’ early workout.

She said there was one lone football player running sprints and getting in cardio in advance of the football team’s usual Monday 6:30am weight training.

The player was in the middle of a sprint, but he saw her moving the boxes and immediately ran over and offered to help. She said he had a hoodie on, but as he got closer she realized it was Jalen Milroe – extremely polite, and ready to help a total stranger in the early hours of the morning.

I know he’ll never see this, but thanks, Jalen, for being kind to my daughter this morning. You didn’t have to do that, she’s a strong kid. But character is what you do when nobody is watching. And you showed yours.

That’s the kind of servant leader we have at QB1

Character is what you do when nobody is watching. Ain’t that the truth.

Shoutout to Jalen Milroe. His character is strong!
