Jacob Fields has been dismissed from the TCU football team.
Veteran safety Jacob Fields has been kicked off the TCU football team. The dismissal reportedly stems from a physical altercation that occurred in the Horned Frogs’ locker room.
According to a source close to the situation, the fight could’ve been prevented. The coaching staff ignored Fields’ pleas and refused to act on his requests for intervention.
Steven Johnson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram provided details on the incident Wednesday morning.
The program announced the dismissal of Fields on Tuesday, four days after an aggravated assault was reported in the John Justin locker rooms, according to the TCU crime and fire log. The incident occurred at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 13, and was reported at 2:29 p.m. Aug. 14, according to the log.

An aggravated assault was reported on August 14th. The fight actually occurred the day prior, according to the police log. The case is still open.

TCU police log details Jacob Fields altercation.
Fields’ fight involved an offensive teammate that had apparently gotten under the safety’s skin. The defensive back attempted to caution the coaching staff of a potential explosion, but his warning fell upon deaf ears.
A source with direct knowledge of the incident confirmed Fields’ involvement in a fight with an offensive player. Fields is described as “remorseful” and “is taking accountability,” but the source also believes the incident could’ve been avoided.
According to the source, tensions began brewing between Fields and his teammates earlier this month in fall camp. The source said Fields felt targeted by teammates with insults and threats, including multiple moments when was allegedly spit on by a teammate.
He reached out multiple times to the coaching staff, but the source said there were no attempts to de-escalate the brewing tension, which ultimately led into the confrontation in the locker room. The source doesn’t believe head coach Sonny Dykes knew the full extent of the issues in the locker room.

Head coach Sonny Dykes may not have fully been aware of the seriousness of the situation. Others on his staff, according to Johnson, were informed.
They ignored signs and refused to de-escalate. As a result, Jacob Fields is no longer a TCU football player.
Fields signed with the program out of the transfer portal this offseason. The senior starred three years at Louisiana Tech before moving to Fort Worth. He racked up 92 tackles as a junior while returning a pair of interceptions for touchdowns.
He was named CUSA Defensive Player of the Year.
Now, his future remains unclear with the season set to start in a matter of weeks. TCU will be without a starting safety for its Week 0 matchup with North Carolina. Fields could be without a team in 2026.
