Jim Harbaugh Makes Surprise Pick For Michigan’s All-Time Greatest Quarterback

The Michigan Wolverines and head coach Jim Harbaugh have a lot on their plates these days.

Especially after the recent news of an NCAA investigation into alleged illegal sign stealing by the Wolverines.

But on the field, things are going great.

And a large reason for that is the play of junior quarterback JJ McCarthy, whom Harbaugh calls the greatest quarterback to ever wear the maize and blue.

“You say at your press conference he’s not just one of the best to ever play, but he has the potential to be the best quarterback ever in Michigan history,” local sports director Brad Galli said to Harbaugh.

Harbaugh then took his answer to the next level in praise of McCarthy.

“He’s on the path to be the of all-time at Michigan in every way,” Harbaugh said. “It’s kind of an amalgamation. When you think of who’s the best quarterback that ever (played for Michigan), it’s kind of an amalgamation that comes to mind.

“The leadership of (Tom) Brady, the throwing of (Chad) Henne, the running of Denard (Robinson), the winning of (Rich) Leach. But I would even take JJ over the amalgation quarterback. And I think the statistics bear that out.”

McCarthy has completed nearly 80 percent of his pases for 1,799 yards, 18 touchdowns and three interceptions thus far this season for the 8-0 Wolverines.

The former five-star recruit is in his second full season as the start for Michigan and has his team firmly entrenched in national title talks.

But that’s high praise nonetheless for a quarterback at the program that produced Tom Brady and has won countless national championships.

Then again, we can’t fault Harbaugh for rocking with his guy. If the Wolverines are going to win their first national title since 1997, they’ll need McCarthy at his best.

And this vote of confidence certainly won’t hurt.
