Jim Harbaugh says that he is a Michigan Man for life. The 58-year-old head coach of the Wolverines made a bold claim about his future with the program on Thursday and if he is to be believed, he will never leave Ann Arbor.

Earlier this past week, Harbaugh interviewed with the Minnesota Vikings. Many people believed that he was fully prepared to leave the collegiate level for the NFL, but ultimately, he did not get the job.

On Thursday, Harbaugh spoke with Mitch Albom of the Detroit Free Press and delved into why he interviewed with Minnesota. He also gave his plans for the remainder of his career.

Essentially, Harbaugh said that he was contacted the Vikings and chose to interview because how close he came to winning a Super Bowl was “tugging” at him. However, after not getting the job, his mindset has suddenly changed!

Harbaugh reportedly called Michigan’s athletic director Warde Manuel after he did not get the job. On the call, he told him that the interview as a “one-time” thing, implying that he won’t be wooed by NFL teams in the future.

“I called Warde, and I asked him if he wanted me to be the head coach. And he said, ‘Yes, 100%.’ And I said, ‘O.K. then. That’s what I want to do.’ And I told him, ‘Warde, this will not be a reoccurring theme every year. This was a one-time thing.’”

Only time will tell if Harbaugh is telling the truth.

He says that he is. The head Michigan Man even went so far as to say that his interview with Minnesota was the “last time” that he will try to return to the NFL.

“There was a pull to the NFL because I got that close to the Super Bowl,” Harbaugh admitted, “but this was the time [to try to return]. And this is the last time. Now let’s go chase college football’s greatest prize.”

The Wolverines came the closest they have to college football’s greatest prize, a College Football Playoff National Championship, this past year. Michigan reached the CFP, but was gobsmacked by Georgia in the semifinal.

Apparently, Harbaugh will have a lifetime to try and take the next step.
