As soon as Michigan announced that it had to cancel its game against Ohio State due to an “increasing number” of positive COVID-19 cases within the Wolverine program, some college football fans, mostly Buckeye fans, began speculating that maybe Michigan was ducking the matchup. Kirk Herbstreit suggesting Michigan may avoid the Ohio State game a few days prior to the game being canceled didn’t slow down the speculation either.

Jim Harbaugh elected to throw a bit more fire on the speculation flame during his Monday press conference as well.

The Michigan head coach explained that Michigan had a “spirited” practice on Sunday, the day after the Ohio State game was supposed to be played. Harbaugh didn’t get into actual test numbers or the number of players that were available for the practice, but it’s still a peculiar comment to make. On top of that, Harbaugh announced that players returned to the weight room on Thursday and Friday.

After having their last two games canceled due to COVID-related issues, Michigan is scheduled to return to the field on Saturday to take on Iowa in what will be its final regular-season game.

While Buckeye fans would have loved to see their team steamroll Michigan this past weekend, it all worked out okay for Ohio State as the Big Ten altered its rules for OSU to qualify for the Big Ten conference championship game.

Nevertheless, Harbaugh’s comments during his press conference have Ohio State fans out there fuming about Michigan canceling the game.
