Texas Baseball Coach Mysteriously Deactivates Social Media Account Amid Criticism From Postseason Exit

Jim Schlossnagle quickly received criticism for the lack of NCAA Tournament success. He responded publicly before mysteriously deactivating his X account.

The head coach landed in Austin this past offseason after spending three years at rival Texas A&M. Hours after leading the Aggies to a national title appearance, he bolted.

Schlossnagle left College Station 10 months ago. Still, some old habits die hard.

Mix-ups aside, the coach truly enjoyed his time leading the Aggies. He’s opened up on his stint with the school in the past, and while admitting his mishandling of the coaching change, he’s shown nothing but respect and admiration to Texas A&M this year.

He didn’t necessarily receive the same treatment. Schlossnagle claimed to have gotten personal attacks from his former fanbase after the switch. He was able to get his revenge with a regular season sweep in late April.

Texas finished the year 22-8 in the SEC in his debut. They won the regular season crown before prepping for the postseason. Unfortunately, the success didn’t continue.

Jim Schlossnagle couldn’t beat UTSA.

The Roadrunners had Texas’s number this year, going a perfect 3-0 against the Longhorns. The first win came in Austin during the regular season.

UTSA was able to dig out of an early hole before dealing a former teammate a loss following his traitorous transfer decision. They won, 8-7, in extra innings.

The second and third meetings came in the NCAA Regional. The Roadrunners sent the ‘Horns to the loser’s bracket with a 9-7 victory before ending their season with a 7-4 triumph on Sunday.

The result was a disappointing ending for the Longhorns. Schlossnagle received immediate backlash. He responded to the criticism this week.

“I was proud. Proud of the way our guys competed, pretty banged up, which every team is. But, really proud of our team… No disrespect to the teams in the past, but this is the first team at Texas that’s ever had to play through the SEC.

“To be the SEC champion and to host a regional, we all understand Omaha is where we all want to end up. But when you go 44-14 in our league it doesn’t make it a bad season, just not the right ending.”

Schlossnagle stayed positive amid negativity from his fanbases, both new and old. That might not have been the case on social media.

The head coach mysteriously deactivated his X account at season’s end. Reasoning, to this point, remains unknown.

X: Jim Schlossnagle

Jim Schlossnagle previously opened up about online hate received after making his last coaching change. Maybe this is his way of blocking out the most recent noise.

Or, maybe there’s another reason for the deactivation. For what it’s worth, his Instagram page is still active. He posts semi-frequently on the app, which might offer a bit safer social media setting.

Whatever the case, you’ll no longer find @CoachSchloss on X.
