Jimbo Fisher’s Complete Fleecing Of Texas A&M Continues After 3rd Straight Loss

Jimbo Fisher’s struggles in College Station continued Saturday night as the Aggies fell to South Carolina, 30-24. It was the first win by the Gamecocks in the series, and the third straight loss for Texas A&M this season.

Despite coming off a bye week, the team looked completely unprepared for the Gamecocks, who found themselves up 17-0 five minutes into the contest. South Carolina returned the opening kick for a score, had a near pick six on A&M’s first drive, and scooped up an unforced fumble deep in Aggie territory on the next series.

It was a hole that proved too deep for the team to dig itself out of. The Aggies have now fallen to 3-4 on the year. One of those defeats came in embarrassing fashion as they paid Appalachian State $1.5M to beat them on their home field. They also lost to an Alabama team playing a backup quarterback.

But despite having lost three of four SEC games thus far, and the fact that he’s underperformed compared to predecessor Kevin Sumlin, Jimbo Fisher’s job seems relatively secure.

Most of that is due to Fisher’s insane contract. The head coach signed a 10-year, fully guaranteed extension after going 8-4 last season. That agreement means the program will pay him $95M through 2031, no matter what happens.

Many are calling for Fisher’s job, but those guaranteed terms have put A&M in a tough spot.

Texas A&M will have to pay Jimbo Fisher the remaining $85,950,000 on his contract if he’s fired this season.

That ridiculous number decreases by about $9M each passing season. When the Aggies hired Fisher, they believed he could replicate the results put up at Florida State. It’s safe to say that hasn’t happened.

The Seminoles won a National Championship in 2013 and posted six 10-win campaigns with Jimbo on the sidelines. The Aggies have yet to reach double digit wins under Fisher.

Making things worse, the program fired Kevin Sumlin after putting up slightly better numbers throughout his tenure.

With that being said, it seems that Fisher has pulled the ultimate fleece of the Aggie football program. While his recruiting numbers continue to soar, he’s been unable to make it work on the field. Many consider Fisher to be an offensive mastermind which makes his inability to develop five-star quarterbacks in College Station even more problematic.

Following the loss to the Gamecocks, many hopped on social media to post reactions.

Many believe if that contract was not in place, Fisher would already be packing his bags.

College football writer Dan Wolken said, “I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say that if Texas A&M was not tied to Jimbo Fisher by the most ridiculous contract in the history of college football, this would be his final season.” He’s probably right.

But that might not matter much to the head coach. He’ll be paid no matter how his team performs.

If anyone can round up the money to get rid of Fisher, it’s the Aggies, but admitting defeat on a $95M failed project would be a tough pill for many around the program to swallow.

Things won’t get any easier for Fisher and Co.

Up next on the slate are Ole Miss, Florida, and Auburn before rounding out SEC play with LSU in the season finale. Depending on how the year finishes up, Fisher’s days at A&M could be limited.
