Jimbo Fisher’s job security continues to dwindle with each and every loss during the 2023 college football season. Texas A&M added another one in Mississippi on Saturday.

The Aggies are 5-4 after losing to Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels. They have yet to reach bowl eligibility in a year where they started ranked No. 23 in the AP Poll preseason rankings.

It is a disaster in College Station. One of the most talented rosters in the country is going to waste.

Texas A&M paid a lot of money through NIL to stack both sides of the ball with four and five-star recruits. Its entire defensive line is likely to play in the NFL one day.

And yet, Fisher cannot figure out how to win.

His predecessor, Kevin Sumlin, was fired after his sixth season. Fisher may be on a similar path.

Sumlin went 51-26 from 2012-2016. That is a .662 winning percentage. The Aggies paid him $35.1 million over that same period of time, including his buyout.

Fisher has been paid $43.47 million since he was hired in 2016. With the loss to Ole Miss, he is now 44-25 at Texas A&M. His winning percentage thus far is now worse than that of the man before him at .637.

Yikes.

If Jimbo Fisher was not making the guaranteed money that he is making, the folks down in College Station likely would have moved on by now. However, if they were to let him go this week, Fisher would be paid a $73.5 million buyout not to coach the Aggies. That obviously ain’t cheap!

Even with how expensive it is to fire Fisher, the wheels are turning. Fans are fed up and want him gone. Can the boosters pull together the money and show him the door? It all depends on the price of oil…
