Joe Burrow is the newest owner of the Columbus Fury, a women’s professional volleyball team in the new Pro Volleyball Federation. The league will start in January.

However, questions loom over the Pro Volleyball Federation and its ability to reach the masses. It does not yet have a deal in place with a broadcast network or streaming service.

That will obviously make it difficult for viewers to tune in………

Even if the league cannot get something done, it will begin its season at the end of January. Games will be played in Atlanta, Grand Rapids, Omaha, Orlando, San Diego and Las Vegas. Volleyball is among the more popular indoor sports in each of those seven markets, so the hope is to grow the sport beyond the collegiate level.

Joe Burrow is all-in!

Burrow, who played at Ohio State and lives in Cincinnati, joined his parents — Jimmy and Robin — in partial ownership of the Columbus-based team. They were founding partners for the league, their son joined on after seeing the growth.

I have been watching the growth of Pro Volleyball Federation since my parents and I joined the League, and it has been very impressive to see. It seems like every day more great news is announced about the League, whether it’s the great players who continue to sign with the League, the outstanding coaches who are involved, or the new ownership groups and markets that are added. I am very proud to be a part of it, and I am now excited to say that my family is involved in the Columbus Fury ownership group.

The Fury will be led by Angel Perez, who formally served as a head coach in the Puerto Rican Women’s Superior Volleyball League. Columbus has signed Olympians, NCAA All-Americans and national champions to its roster.

Former Penn State outside hitter Megan Courtney, who won back-to-back national championships in 2013/14, will be the star. Former Maryland middle blocker Rainelle Jones and Ohio State defensive specialist Valeria Leon will be crucial components to the Fury’s success.

Columbus will play all 12 home matches at Nationwide Arena. Jimmy and Robin can’t wait to be in the stands. Perhaps Joe Burrow will join them after the Bengals finish up their season.

If not, hopefully the Pro Volleyball Federation will be able to land a T.V. deal that allows him to watch from home. The success of professional volleyball is going to rely largely on the ability for fans to tune in from anywhere. A broadcasting deal will be crucial. Visibility will be crucial.
