The golf world started asking questions yesterday when Jon Rahm’s named was removed from the TGL website’s list of players. This leaves an open spot:

As expected, a lot of folks who pay for Twitter Blue are taking this as a sign that Jon Rahm is headed to LIV Golf. This comes on the heels of a report that he asked for so much money from LIV that THEY had to turn him down and not the other way around.

Conversely, most reasonable people assume Jon Rahm simply couldn’t make it work with his schedule and perhaps didn’t like the format. There are an infinite number of reasons for why Rahm’s name would be removed from the TGL website and there will certainly be an announcement in the coming days to provide clarification.

Jon Rahm Officially Out Of TGL, Spokesman Confirms

Dan Rapaport made it simple: TGL events are in Florida on Monday nights and Jon Rahm lives in Arizona. The travel won’t work.

A spokesman for TGL gave this statement about Jon Rahm’s absence to SBJ: “We will miss him during the inaugural TGL season. We understand that players have to balance a lot of different facets of their professional and personal lives and respect Jon’s choice and wish him well.”

One person even joked that Jon Rahm backed out of TGL after seeing Collin Morikawa’s acceptance call from Alexis Ohanian. That footage made the rounds on Wednesday and Morikawa described this as being close to getting his first Ryder Cup invitation.

It is worth considering that there’s a non-zero chance Jon Rahm goes to LIV. It doesn’t seem like the most plausible explanation for this situation at all. However, he’s 3rd in the OWGR points (world rankings) and has exemptions to major championships for several years. The situation is similar to Cam Smith’s success immediately prior to leaving the PGA Tour for LIV.
