Last Sunday, viewers were stunned when Josh Allen clearly hit his head hard on the turf in the 2nd half of the Buffalo Bills’ loss to the Houston Texans, only to return to the game just a few plays later. Given the scary scene earlier in the year involving Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, it was jarring to see Allen back in there for many.
It’s been a huge source of discussion this week, and the NFL’s concussion protocols have come into question. But, on Friday, it was reported that all protocols were followed.
First off, here was the hit that resulted in the concerning situation.

He left the game for just a few plays, and was in the next series. And, he claimed that it was an ankle injury that kept him out, not the very obvious hit to the head.
“Big shot to the chest and I rolled my ankle there,” Allen said. “They flagged me for hitting my head, but felt good enough to go back in the game.”
Nobody really bought that, nor should they have. He clearly hit his head.
But, the NFL and NFLPA say everything was kosher.
The NFL and NFLPA have reviewed the reports from Bills QB Josh Allen being evaluated for a potential concussion vs. the Texans and found the steps were followed in evaluating and clearing him to return to the game. The joint statement: pic.twitter.com/HvTQEndDkj

Josh Allen got off to a terrific start to the season, but he and the Bills have stumbled a bit the last two weeks. Allen was just 9/30 last week in the Bills’ 23-20 loss. He will look to rebound against the Jets on Monday Night Football.
