Professional golfer Justin Thomas capped his weekend at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in style on Sunday. On his final shot of the day, he sank an eagle from 102 yards out.

The shot proved important in terms of both finish and tournament payout. His improbable eagle helped him bank an extra $50,000.

Thomas wrapped up the four-day event at -15. That was good enough to put him in a three-way tie for sixth place in the standings. The golfer was paid $310,500 for his performance, as were the two competitors that matched his score.

Thomas battled for position on the leaderboard late in the tournament, saving his best performance for the final day. He shot an impressive 65 on Sunday to best his Thursday (66), Friday (68), and Saturday (70) scores. His last shot was key.

Sitting more than 100 yards from the pin on No. 18, Justin Thomas was simply looking to get to the green and putt for birdie to close out his weekend. That would’ve given him a 66 for his Sunday score, tying his output in the opening round. It would’ve also placed him in a four-way tie for eighth.

That would’ve resulted in a payout of a little under $260,000 – about $50,000 less than what he earned with his sixth-place finish. The walk-off eagle proved to be a five-figure shot!

The outing continued what’s been a strong start to the golfer’s 2025 PGA Tour season. Thomas is currently sitting at ninth in the FedEx Cup standings after posting a pair of Top 10 finishes and making all four of his cuts.

Thus far, he’s banked $1.48 million. His most recent shot helped add to that payout pot!
