College basketball officials issued yet another egregious ejection during Saturday’s game between Purdue and Wisconsin. Senior guard Kamari McGee picked up a Flagrant 2 foul for what was, without a doubt, incidental contact to the nether region of an opponent.

He was sent to the locker room with more than six minutes left in the first half.

The Boilermakers ran an inbounds play from the baseline and Braden Smith passed the ball out to Trey Kaufmann-Renn. Smith immediately broke toward the top of the key to give his big man some relief. Kaufmann-Renn stayed firm in his footing to set a screen that was supposed to open up a quick shot for his star point guard.

McGee, a prominent role player off of the bench for the Badgers, was tasked with guarding Smith. He stayed one step behind him until he reached Kaufmann-Renn. There was not enough room for the 6-foot guard to slip past the 6-foot-9 forward so he ran right into him. It was a pretty big collision.

Unfortunately, McGee hit Kaufmann-Renn right where the sun does not shine. The contact was unavoidable. Unless McGee was to completely stop his forward momentum while chasing Smith to the ball, the intentional pick play from Kaufmann-Renn was going to cause a crash. Sure enough…

Upon further review, the Big Ten officiating crew somehow determined that Kamari McGee made unnecessary and excessive contact with an opponent. They slapped him with a Flagrant 2.

A Flagrant 2 foul in college basketball results in an automatic ejection. McGee exited the game with six minutes and 20 seconds remaining in the first half and was not allowed to return.

This exact sequence of events also took place in the Big 12 earlier this month. Officials are either incompetent, on a power trip, or both!
