KD’s Latest Comments On Ben Simmons Eerily Mirror Remarks Made By Joel Embiid Before Ugly Split In Philly

Joel Embiid caught a ton of heat for comments made about then-teammate Ben Simmons when the two played together in Philadelphia. The timing of those comments came during the first signs of a split between the Sixers and their former first-round pick.

Simmons had been kicked out of practice for refusing to participate. There were reports of the guard not taking part in the team’s offseason workouts, which led to a strain in the relationship. Eventually, tensions would boil over enough to force a trade.

After dealing with his teammate’s childish antics, Embiid said to the media that it wasn’t “his job to babysit.” That seemed to be the beginning of the end of Simmons’ time in Philly.

Now, Nets’ star Kevin Durant has been heard sharing the same exact sentiment regarding his new teammate.

KD doesn’t want to “babysit” Ben Simmons

Simmons was traded to Brooklyn in the middle of the 2021-22 season, which prompted a hilarious response from Embiid. Now, he finds himself on another Eastern Conference championship contender.

But while he’s found a new home, many of his past concerns have resurfaced.

Simmons didn’t play a game with the Nets last year, even though it was rumored he’d be able to return for the playoffs. The guard did not make an appearance, though, with reports surfacing that he’d ghosted the team when asked about the possibility of making his debut in the team’s group message.

After all that transpired surrounding Simmons last season, Durant was heard lending some advice to his new teammate. Fans quickly pointed out that he used the same exact phrase that Embiid said a year ago.

NY Post reporter Brian Lewis posted the following on Twitter about what KD is doing to keep Simmons confident.

KD on how to keep Ben Simmons confident: “Trust in him, pass him the ball, tell him be aggressive…(But) I’m not here to babysit anybody. Ben knows that. If he’s got a time to be aggressive go be aggressive. Who gives a s–t if you miss it? We like you being aggressive.”

Followers quickly jumped on that “babysit” remark.

Most noted that Embiid got hammered as being a bad teammate by the media after making his original comments. Durant, meanwhile, seems to be getting praised.

Hopefully, things work out better for Durant than they did for Embiid.
