Kenny Pickett’s hands have caused quite the commotion in recent weeks. They are very small.

First, at the Senior Bowl, Pickett refused to have his hands measured for one specific reason. His decision caused quite the concern.

Hand size, particularly with quarterbacks, is one of the intangibles that NFL scouts look for. The bigger the hands, the better a quarterback can grip the ball.

That is the big reason that hand size matters — ball security. Bigger hands also allows a quarterback to have more control of the football, which allows him to get more spin and velocity on a pass.

Ultimately, based on history, the correlation between hand size and success doesn’t really mean anything. Nevertheless, it is something that NFL scouts, coaches and front office staff look for come NFL Draft season every year. For Pickett, it is a concern.

Kenny Pickett has tiny hands.

The former Pittsburgh Panthers quarterback, who wears a glove on both hands at all times during a game, is double-jointed. In turn, he can’t stretch his hands out the way that a bigger-handed quarterback could.

When Pickett measured-in at the NFL Combine, his hands measured-in well below average. He has small hands.

However, over the course of the last few weeks, Pickett has been working on his hand size and has been doing specific lengthening stretches. As it would turn out, they paid off!

Pickett’s hands measured 1/8th of an inch larger than they did at the NFL Combine.

Despite the slightly larger measurement, there was still a lot of commotion made about his hand size. Of the teams in attendance at Pickett’s Pro Day, the Carolina Panthers made sure to get a good look at his hands specifically.

General Manager Scott Fitterer called him over and both QBs coach Ben McAdoo and head coach Matt Rhule took a gander.

No matter how big his hands are, Pickett had a decent showing at Pittsburgh’s Pro Day. He definitely had a few wobbly balls, but he showed off his arm strength.

He also showed off his ability to move in the pocket.

After the day was done, Pickett spoke about his tiny hands. He thinks the media hypes it up more than it needs to be hyped up.

While Pickett might be right, he still has tiny hands.
