Goliath has fallen.

The No. 2 seed Kentucky Wildcats were taken down by 15th-seeded Saint Peter’s in an overtime thriller, tossing everyone’s bracket out of whack on opening night.

The loss has brought about a ton of feelings on social media.

Most of those feeling surround the Wildcat fanbase. Some fans are now calling for Coach John Calipari’s job. Others are just reacting in pure disbelief.

This is what March is all about.

The loss also brought about a great debate. Which college mascot is the most demoralizing to lose against?

The Saint Peter’s Peacocks certainly make a strong case, but there are definitely a few others in the running.

SEC analyst Peter Burns asked this very question following the Peacocks’ huge upset and the answers are absolutely hilarious.

Fans Name Their Picks For Worst Mascot To Lose Against

Saint Peter’s is the only school in the country with a Peacock as its mascot. The bird was chosen by upon the rebirth of the school in 1930 as it represents resurrection and eternal life.

With the college being located in Jersey City, there are also ties to the area’s original settlers. Jersey City was once known as “Pavonia,” or “Land of the Peacock.”

That history doesn’t take away from its hilarity. Trust me, as a South Carolina Gamecock, I know.

On Thursday night, the question was asked, “Who is the worst mascot to lose against?”

Check out the response below.

The top choice seems to come down to the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs and the Delta State Fighting Okra, though there were some other strong contenders, including those Peacocks.

For now, Saint Peter’s doesn’t care. They’ll be content celebrating one of the biggest upsets in recent memory.
