- Kyrie Irving’s future with the Nets appears rocky
- Reports are surfacing that he could opt to test the open market
- Irving responded to the rumors on Twitter, and it’s not sitting well with Nets fans
Kyrie Irving might not be in a Nets jersey much longer.
After just three seasons in Brooklyn, it appears as though his relationship with the front office is severing. The rocky circumstances stem from contract negotiations surrounding the team’s star guard.
Irving has stated publicly that he wants to stay in Brooklyn and build a future with Kevin Durant. Unfortunately, the Nets have been hesitant to offer Kyrie a long-term deal due to his injury history and the fact that he missed half of last year because of his vaccination status.
NBA insider Shams Charania reported early Monday morning that the conversations about Irving’s future with the Nets have come to an “impasse,” which leaves the door open for the talented playmaker to seek options on the open market. The Lakers, Clippers, and Knicks have already jumped out as potential suitors.
A few hours after Charania’s report made its way around social media, Irving responded to the rumors with a Twitter post of his own.

Irving posted a cryptic clip from the TV series The Wire. It shows a character smirking from beyond a fence while he watches the drama in front of him unfold. More specifically, this character is watching the demise of a former partner in crime.
That doesn’t seem to be a good sign for Nets fans who’d like to see Kyrie back in a Brooklyn jersey next year.
Check out the immediate response.
