In a not-so-shocking turn of events, Tennessee fans are blaming Lane Kiffin for their recent NCAA investigation. The hate runs deep in this rivalry, though it may be one-sided.

Of course, those feelings stem from Kiffin’s departure in 2010 when he bolted for USC after just one season. Since, Vol Nation has done everything in its power to get even.

The head coach’s stint in Knoxville was brief, but it did enough emotional damage to last a lifetime. Taking over for national championship winner Phil Fulmer, he led the Vols in the ’09 campaign.

Posting a 7-6 record, he got the program back to a bowl game after a losing season. Shortly thereafter, he was gone, and it left a bad taste in the mouths of the Tennessee faithful.

Riots on campus ensued with fans feeling like a scorned lover, but there was nothing they could do to change the outcome.

And nothing they’ve done since has been able to lessen the sting, including pelting Kiffin with golf balls and mustard bottles, though Josh Heupel is doing his best to make them forget.

That will be a lengthy process it seems, as a number of Vols still find ways to blame him for bringing down the program – more than a decade later!

The latest accusation came on the Paul Finebaum Show this week.

Tennessee caller blames Lane Kiffin for NCAA investigation

Peggy in Tennessee phoned into the show to give her thoughts on the NCAA’s investigation into the Vols’ NIL dealings.

“Paul, I am beside every side I’ve got. I really am,” she said.

After rambling on for a few moments, Peggy continued, “I’ve got a theory… Who’s the portal king?”

While in utter disbelief about the insinuation, Finebaum knew exactly the man she was hinting at.

Would Kiffin go to those lengths to sink the Tennessee football program? He’s known to troll on Twitter, but this is a stretch.

He appeared to give us our answer after seeing the call go viral on social media.

That about sums it up!

Hard to believe that 15 years later, Lane Kiffin is still Knoxville’s villain.
