Minor league baseball teams are known for turning to gimmicks to drum up publicity and try to attract fans to the ballpark. That includes the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Triple-A Squad that has installed a beer zip line that seemingly has no reason to exist but is nonetheless a ground-breaking innovation.

Every sports team prides itself on the “gameday experience” that’s offered to fans who are usually lured to a stadium or arena for the event at the center of an outing that can be enhanced by the amenities, attractions, and distractions they’re able to take advantage of upon their arrival.

That’s an especially crucial area of focus for the organizations that don’t boast any superstars or lack the overall talent you find at the highest levels of a sport, including the minor league baseball teams that are known for going to great lengths to give people some extra incentive to head to one of their games.

Those clubs can get very creative with the promotions that tend to be a staple of their schedule. However, there are plenty of other ways they can set themselves apart, and one team in eastern Pennsylvania has managed to do exactly that with an incredibly novel beer delivery system.

The Leigh Valley IronPigs had turned the concessions game on its head by installing a beer zip line at their stadium

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs are the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, and they play around an hour north of The City of Brotherly Love at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown.

The IronPigs put together a packed promotional calendar for the 2026 season, which includes a slew of giveaways, weekly “Firework Nights,” and unique activities like “goat snuggling” and a meet-and-greet with Kate Flannery (the actress best known for playing Meredith on The Office)

There are plenty of places where fans can grab a beer in the stadium, and on Thursday, the team shared a glimpse at the one concession stand that provides what is easily the most unique experience courtesy of the zip line that has been installed to ferry cans from the upper level of the stadium down to the concourse.

It doesn’t seem like the zip line was installed in the name of convenience, as it appears to be an at least three-person operation that requires you to wait around 20 seconds from the time the beer begins its journey from the upper deck to the moment it ends up in your hand.

However, you have to respect that level of ingenuity, and I’m sure there are plenty of fans who will be willing to wait longer for a beer than they normally would for the chance to film the experience that naturally lends itself to the I Think You Should Leave references that I can only imagine the employees overseeing the operation will quickly become tired of.

I actually called up the IronPigs in an attempt to track down someone who might be able to respond to some of the unanswered questions I had after seeing this clip, and the employee who was kind enough to handle that absurd request on a Friday afternoon said they would try to put me in contact with someone capable of shedding more light on the zip line.

I have not heard back from the team as of this writing, but I will be sure to update this post if that changes.
