The release of Avengers: Endgame in 2019 was a massive deal for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe who had been promised the conclusion of a story that had developed over the course of a whopping 21 movies dating back to Iron Man.

Plenty of those diehards made the trek to the movie theater as soon as the film debuted in order to see how the remaining members of the eponymous squad that had been decimated by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War would bounce back, but anyone who wasn’t able to catch it on opening night had to tread very carefully in order to avoid spoilers.

While the Russo Brothers and multiple cast members had helmed a campaign to discourage people from posting about what unfolds in the final act online, LeSean McCoy apparently didn’t get the memo, as he became Marvel Fanboy Enemy No. 1 when he sent out a tweet to pay his respects to Tony Stark after seeing Iron Man sacrifice himself for the greater good at the end of the film.

While you may not think that decision had any major consequences aside from the legion of angry fans who flooded into his mentions, McCoy said he actually faced some pretty serious ramifications while discussing the fallout during a recent appearance on Pardon My Take.

During the conversation, McCoy asserted the tweet in question was the reason a car company decided not to go forward with a sponsorship deal that was on the verge of being finalized, saying:

“I lost some money behind that.

I had a deal—was it with Lexus?—and we get to the ink to sign the contract and somebody must have called down from the high execs; like, ‘Hold up, Shady McCoy? Oh, no, no, we can’t sign him. He spoiled Endgame.

I was so mad. That’s a true story, though. I lost that deal because of that movie.”

He also added he didn’t know people took the Avengers movies that seriously (a rookie mistake if there ever was one), but when you consider McCoy earned more than $63 million in contract money over the course of his career, it probably worked out for him in the end.
