Most golfers would be thrilled to be able to hit a 10-foot putt on a good day, and draining one when you’re more than a football field away from the hole is a virtually impossible task. However, one man now has a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records after doing exactly that.

In 2017, a group of YouTubers in Australia who usually focused on basketball trick shots decided to pivot to golf by setting up shop on a fairway at Point Water Golf Course in the hopes of sinking the longest putt ever recorded.

While it obviously took them more than a few attempts, they were eventually able to do exactly that with a 395-foot putt that ended up in the hole.

I’d argue that was less of a “putt” and more of a “shot that was made with a putter,” but the folks tasked with curating the list of Guinness World Records nonetheless decided to give them a plaque for the accomplishment.

However, there’s now a new mark to beat thanks to what unfolded in Wisconsin earlier this year.

On September 25th, a bunch of golfers gathered at The Baths of Blackwolf Run, the 10-hole par-3 course connected to the 18-hole tract the legendary Pete Dye designed in the town of Kohler.

The competition featured eight men participating in the 2023 World’s Longest Putt Finals, which eventually turned into a closest-to-the-pin competition where Mike Born was crowned champion after two of his shots came within 10 feet of the pin.

However,  the golfers decided to stick around after the showdown officially wrapped up in the hopes of sinking the 401-foot putt none of them had actually managed to make, and around 15 minutes before sunset, Jay Stocki took his final shot of the evening before claiming “It’s over, that’s in” as it made its way toward the flagstick.

While he may have been joking, that prophecy was fulfilled around 10 seconds later when the ball came to rest in the bottom of the cup before Stocki and everyone else who was there to witness the record-breaking feat celebrated accordingly.

Not too shabby.
