Louisville Cardinals star first baseman Tague Davis is college baseball’s most dangerous power threat. The left-handed slugger leads the nation in home runs and RBIs. He’s been largely unstoppable for in the 2026 season.

As a result, he’s received major interest from rival suitors looking to lure him away from Kentucky. Despite not being in the transfer portal, his coach claims he’s been contacted with NIL offers.

If true, it’s a blatant violation of tampering. The regular season is still not through. The Cardinals will soon compete in the postseason.

It’s created a difficult situation for Dan McDonnell to navigate as he attempts to lead his team to Omaha.

Who is Tague Davis?

The first baseman from West Chester, Pennsylvania is the ACC’s new single-season home run leader. He broke JD Drew’s previous mark of 31 during a series vs. Miami.

He’s only added to that total in the games to follow.

Davis is an all-around threat. He’s hitting .364 with a nation-leading 93 RBIs. He’s also posted a .984 fielding percentage with just seven errors across 53 starts.

Davis projects be a top pick in the 2027 MLB Draft, but as a sophomore, he is not currently eligible.

That means Louisville should have him on the roster one more season. That is, if he’s not pried away by tampering programs.

How much has Davis been offered?

Dan McConnell opened up on the tampering rumors surrounding Tague Davis. He did not provide an exact dollar amount that’s been offered. Instead, he insinuated that the first baseman could name his asking price.

Louisville may have to match. Will they be able to?

The school provided significant NIL resources to the basketball program, helping Pat Kelsey land a No. 1 transfer haul this offseason. That is a double-edged sword.

On one hand, that could create concern. Is there any money left to spend on Davis? On the other, it shows a willingness to invest in athletic success. If Davis is important enough, the program will find the cash.

All the while, Davis continues to make the task of keeping him put more difficult. His asking price goes up with each passing game.

The slugger’s gone yard four times in his last three games. His latest homer came immediately following McDonnell’s tampering revelation.

Louisville now has the undesirable task of fending off suitors while negotiating an NIL plan, all while trying to finish the season strong to make an NCAA Tournament run. McDonnell is pulling double duty.

Tague Davis is the hottest name on the college baseball market. The Cardinals will have to fight to keep its star on the team.

We’ll soon see if they’re successful, and if it becomes a distraction in postseason pursuits.
