The LSU Tigers are college baseball champions, winning a three-game finals series over SEC rival Florida to wrap up the College World Series. To get there, they had to beat No. 1 team Wake Forest, though.

A funny story from their final matchup against the Demon Deacons has now gone public. It involves a Tigers player stealing the pregame meal of Wake Forest’s best pitcher.

Wake’s Rhett Lowder will soon make a lot of money playing professional baseball. The right-handed pitcher is considered the No. 6 prospect in the upcoming draft class by MLB.com. A sure-fire first-round pick, Lowder won an NCAA-leading 15 games and posted a miniscule 1.87 ERA.

In his final collegiate season, the righty nearly led his program to its first college baseball championship since 1955. The Demon Deacons did all they could in the regular season, winning 54 games to land an ACC crown.

After making it all the way to Omaha, Wake Forest fell just short of a title.

A loss to LSU effectively ended their baseball season, and now, a story from the final game is making headlines.

As Tiger players make the rounds in their championship celebrations, an interesting admission from first baseman Tre’ Morgan has come to light.

While speaking to the media, a few players were asked what the funniest moment of the College World Series run was. After a bit of hesitation, Morgan chimed in with a response.

He said teammate Thatcher Hurd actually stole Rhett Lowder’s pregame meal.

“One of the most important games of the season, we’re all getting ready to play,” Morgan started. “We were going to face Rhett Lowder. He’s one of the best pitchers in the country. Thatcher [Hurd] gets his pregame meal, and it says on DoorDash that his order is here.

“He goes downstairs, and there’s this guy with a little brown bag. He walks up to him, and he says, ‘Is this DoorDash for me?’ The guy says, ‘Yeah, it’s for Rhett L.’ Thatcher takes the DoorDash and eats it.

“So, Rhett Lowder didn’t get his pregame meal.”

Amid laughter from the LSU baseball players, a team official jumped in and said, “That’s the only run we got against him.”

The missed meal didn’t seem to bother Lowder all that much as he absolutely shoved in that College World Series contest. He threw seven scoreless innings while striking out six Tiger batters.

Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be enough as LSU would break a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the 11th inning with a walk-off home run.
