A slow-speed chase led Wyoming police officers through a golf course after a man tried to run down a golf pro at the Cheyenne Country Club.
A Colorado man was arrested Monday evening after Cheyenne Police officers were dispatched at approximately 5 p.m. to a report of a truck driving on a golf course.
Lead assistant golf pro Branden Burbank is still perplexed as to why the driver of the blue GMC truck wanted to destroy the Cheyenne Country Club golf course and attempt to run him down in the process.
“I saw him driving around the parking lot, going over by the clubhouse, then he hopped the curb and made a hard right onto the golf course,” Burbank, who has a background in law enforcement, told Cowboy State Daily on Wednesday.
“I tried to stop him, to put my car in his path, because people were on the course at that time. Then when he saw me, he revved up at me and made a run for me.”

According to a Cheyenne Police Department news release, a blue GMC Sierra sped through a fence and exited the golf course as police arrived. Officers tried to pull over the driver, who was later identified as being from Lakewood, Colorado, but he refused to stop and kept driving slowly.
Officers following the truck said he drove carelessly, occasionally running red lights and driving on the wrong side of the road.
The man eventually stopped the vehicle himself, ending the chase, but he did not go to jail quietly.
“He continued to actively resist and struggle with authorities until he was put into custody,” according to a police statement.
One witness to the police chase estimated at least five police vehicles were following, with several others trailing on surrounding blocks, but the man in the truck “was moving maybe 15-20 mph.” Another witness said, “There was no speed about it, really.”
Burbank said the man “drove through a bunker, over multiple greens, then tried to go through a gate, but didn’t get through it.” The golf course had to be closed for “about a day and a half,” he said.
“I have no clue what set him off, but all I was thinking was he wanted to hit me, do some damage, for sure,” Burbank said. “And, he just had kind of a blank stare on his face. He didn’t seem upset or anything, just blank.”
