Mike Vrabel spoke to the media on Wednesday for the first time since the Dianna Russini scandal reached its pinnacle during the NFL Draft. He professed his love for his wife and children and would not commit to future obligations because he is only focused on the here and now.

Fair enough.

It seems like the NFL coach is going to stay consistent to his approach from the beginning. This is not a big deal and he’s not going to make it one. Vrabel’s singular concern while on the job is football. Everything else will be handled behind closed doors.

Mike Vrabel remains employed by the New England Patriots.

The alleged affair between Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini, who are both married with children, first broke at the beginning of April. If you have been following along with BroBible, there were quite a few new developments over those next few weeks.

Vrabel sought counseling during the third day of the NFL Draft and was not contacted via phone or email. Russini’s access to the Tennessee Titans head coach during the pandemic raised questions about ESPN insight. A deleted post regarding free agency raised tampering concerns. Additional photos of their escapades alluded to a six-year relationship between the two.

And then there was the leaked Spotify playlist that Russini seemingly sent to Vrabel to cheer him up during a four-game losing streak. That actually might’ve been the worst part of the whole thing. It was one of the worst playlists I have ever seen.

Russini ultimately decided to resign from her role with The Athletic but Vrabel remains in place as the head football coach of the New England Patriots. The NFL chose not to punish him. Nor did the team.

Mike Vrabel is allowed to handle his personal matter as such. There is no plan for resignation or a forced ouster. In fact, we have not heard any new updates about the scandal in about two weeks. We have not seen or heard from either party since Mother’s Day.

That changed on Wednesday when the Patriots held a press conference with their head coach.

He will not address the Dianna Russini scandal.

Mike Vrabel has remained consistent throughout this entire fallout. He is not going to make a big deal of the alleged affair. It will be handled on his own terms. It is not something he is going to discuss publicly.

Although the media in New England has yet to ask any direct questions about Dianna Russini, reporters asked a few scandal-adjacent questions at his press conference on Wednesday.

Vrabel was asked whether he expects to miss any other football activities in the future after he missed day three of the NFL Draft for counseling. His answer was a deflection.

“I mean, I can only tell you, I’m gonna be there today. But I can’t tell you anything other than, I’m gonna be out there today in full force. And I mean that because, you know, who knows what’s gonna come up? You know, anything can happen. And so, I’m gonna focus on today.”

When asked about his work-life balance, Vrabel said it has been “really good.” He loves his family. He loves his personal friends. And then it was right back to football.

There are plenty of jokes to be made about just how much he loves his “personal friends,” considering that Russini was/is one of his “personal friends,” but that’s about it. Vrabel is not going to give an inch because he does not want to allow the tabloid headlines to take a mile.
