Despite having a massive hole at wide receiver all season long, the Kansas City Chiefs still found a way to repeat as Super Bowl Champions. But, a big-time receiver is going on the market that makes perfect sense for Chiefs to sign.

Their AFC West rivals Los Angeles Chargers have released star wide receiver Mike Williams as a cap casualty on Wednesday.

Williams has been a star for the Chargers when healthy. The seventh-overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft is a big-bodied receiver capable of causing huge problems for any defense he faces.

So far, in 88 career games he’s caught 309 passes for just over 4800 yards and 31 touchdowns. That’s while he’s been the second option in Los Angeles behind fellow star Keenan Allen. When healthy, he’s an incredibly effective receiver.

The problem has been health. Williams has missed at least a game in every season he’s been in the league. Last year, Evans tore his ACL in week 3 and missed the rest of the season. A receiver who will turn 30 next season coming off an extensive injury history and an ACL tear is a scary propsition, for sure.

But, if you’re the Kansas City Chiefs, it could be the perfect signing. Williams is likely going to be available on the cheap when you factor in the money he will get from the Chargers next year. A short-term receiver with a great pedigree that has reliable hands and can win on all three levels is exactly who Patrick Mahomes needs to pair with Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce to get that passing game back to the top of the league again.

I think everyone expects Kansas City to upgrade at wide receiver this year, and Williams is as good as any option out there.
