Some Ohio State fans called for the school to fire Ryan Day after the Buckeyes lost to Michigan, but it’s hard to imagine he won’t be keeping his job. With that said, he does have a fallback courtesy of a minor league baseball team that trolled him by extending an offer in the wake of the defeat.

It’s no secret college football fans have a tendency to overreact to a loss (especially when it comes at the hands of a rival), but anyone who genuinely believes Ryan Day deserves to get kicked to the curb because Ohio State came up short to one of the best teams in the country is out of their mind.

Yes, Day is now 1-3 against the Michigan Wolverines, but he’s still 56-7 as the head coach of the Buckeyes, undefeated against Big Ten opponents who don’t hail from Ann Arbor, and has racked up a couple of conference championships while leading the team to the College Football Playoff on three occasions.

It’s hard to imagine he’ll be leaving Columbus at any point in the near future, but the Kalamazoo Growlers nonetheless claim they’d be happy to have him on their payroll.

Following Michigan’s win, the team (a member of the Northwoods League, a summer circuit for college players) had a little bit of fun by offering to hire Day as their third base coach, with owner Brian Copoly saying “We think Ryan was born for the position.”

While the Growlers didn’t explicitly say why they think that’s the case, it’s safe to assume it has something to do with his repeated ability to close the deal when facing off against Michigan. In order to amass the funds it would need to convince Day to take the job, the team also announced it will be selling shirts inspired by the offer.

Never change, college football rivalries. Never change.
