Opening day is finally upon us as MLB kicks off its season with a 15-game slate on Thursday.

This year, however, the league is doing something a bit different for rookies making their debut. So different, in fact, that card collectors might freak out over it.

According to Darren Rovell, the MLB has partnered with Fanatics, the MLBPA, and Topps, to create a one-of-a-kind baseball card for rookies making their debuts.

Here are the full details.

A truly, one-of-one, rookie debut baseball card… It sure sounds like a fast track to some people hitting the jackpot.

Card collecting is already back in full swing, as it’s become a bit of a craze in the USA. You can’t even go to Walmart or Target to buy a pack anymore, because people hunt decks like crazy.

So, it’ll be interesting to see how these cards are distributed. Either way, the MLB and its affiliates are only going to add to the craze that is card collecting.

Additionally, this is a cool idea to garner more interest in baseball. Fans might be paying even more attention to rookies throughout their careers.

Especially if that person has a rookie debut card. If that player pops off and becomes a star, then you just hit the jackpot.
