Monte Harrison committed to play college football at the University of Arkansas on Monday. He is almost 30 years old and spent the last decade playing professional baseball on the MiLB and MLB levels.
This upcoming season will be his first time back on the gridiron since the fall of 2013.
Harrison, who will turn 29 in August prior to the Razorbacks’ fall camp, will join the team as a walk-on. The other freshman on the team will be 10 years younger in age. They are going to be of equal standing.
As one of the top prospects in the 2014 MLB Draft, Harrison was drafted in the second round by the Brewers straight out of Lee’s Summit West High School in Missouri. Milwaukee traded him to Miami as part of the Christian Yelich deal in 2018.
Although Harrison played in the 2019 All-Star Futures game, things never quite worked out from there. He was released by the organization in 2022.
The Angels scooped him up and spent a few months with the big league club before being designated for assignment and eventually choosing free agency. A second stint with the Brewers in 2023 marked the end of his career.
Harrison logged 68 at-bats in three Major League Baseball seasons and hit .176 with two home runs and six RBIs. This catch was pretty sweet:

Prior to his baseball career, Harrison was actually committed to play football at Nebraska as a four-star wide receiver. He recorded 60 catches for 1,007 receiving yards and 12 receiving touchdowns with 198 rushing yards, 12 rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown as a senior.
The future Marlins and Angels slugger was also a D1-caliber hooper!
Now, just shy of 11 years after committing to play college football for the Cornhuskers, Harrison is committed to play college football for the Hogs! His full, four-year eligibility remains in tact because he never enrolled at a school.
