Michael Jordan played his last game in the NBA on April 16, 2003 and yet, 15 years later, he is still ranked number five on the list of the NBA’s top signature shoe sellers. The only current NBA players more popular than MJ in that department are LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry, Not even stars like Paul George, Carmelo Anthony, James Harden and even Kobe Bryant have been able to outsell Jordan yet.

So despite His Airness’ absence from the NBA, at least as far as on the court, his incredible legacy has allowed him to still hold a massive amount of appeal to a new generation of basketball fans.

As such, Netflix and ESPN Films today announced a joint production called The Last Dance, a 10-part documentary series that will chronicle one of sports’ greatest icons and one of sports’ most successful dynasties, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls of the 1990s.

The documentary series will be directed by Jason Hehir, who also directed The Fab Five, The ’85 Bears and the recent Andre The Giant documentary on HBO.

Anchored by more than 500 hours of never-before-seen footage from the team’s last championship run in the 1997-98 season, “The Last Dance” will have the full participation of Jordan and other key figures from the Bulls’ championship teams, as well as dozens of other luminaries from basketball and beyond.

The series is slated to premiere sometime in 2019.
