113 years ago, the Titanic was sailing the North Atlantic Ocean en route from Southampton, England to New York City on its maiden voyage. We all know how the story ended, as it hit an iceberg, and the world’s most famous passenger ship sunk on its maiden voyage.
Fast forward to present day. Philadelphia Phillies slugger Nick Castellanos has a habit for hitting home runs at interestingtimes, and he did it once again on Monday, prompting a joke from the Phillies booth.
Castellanos has become one of the biggest memes in all of baseball for hitting home runs at times that something else, something usually sad, is going on. It started when he hit a home run during former Reds play-by-play man Thom Brennaman’s apology for using a homophobic slur on air back in 2020. Since, he’s hit home runs multiple times when the broadcast was honoring dead veterans and and once when honoring a pediatric cancer patient.
While the Titanic technically sank just after midnight on April 15, April 14 was the night it hit the iceberg 113 years ago. The Phillies were taking on the Giants, and Nick Castellanos got ahold of one. What happened next was pure hilarity.

You know that Ruben Amaro Jr. had thought about that joke all day long. It was not an accident that he called it a “Titanic” home run. He knew what he was doing.
Castellanos continued his good start at the plate, and he gave us another meme.
