Nick Saban is opening up about the final play call in the team’s loss against Michigan at the Rose Bowl.

On Monday night, Alabama suffered a brutal loss to the Michigan Wolverines in overtime.

Fans questioned Alabama’s final play call on fourth down, which ended up being a QB run from shotgun formation from inside the five-yard line, which was easily stopped by the Michigan defense.

After the game, Saban explained the play when asked about it during his postgame press conference.

“Tommy (Rees) felt the best thing that we could do was have a quarterback run which was one of our two points plays for this game, and the ball was on the three yard line which is just like a two point play…but we didn’t get a block so it didn’t work, we didn’t execute it very well and it didn’t work”

Saban said he knew Michigan would put pressure on the final play but felt his team would be able to block better.

“They pressure, and we’d thought they would pressure, but we thought we could gap them and block them and make it work, but we didn’t.”
