Traffic in NYC caused a delay in the Long Island-Columbia basketball game on Tuesday. Apparently, the LIU bus got log jammed on its way to the arena.

The Sharks weren’t spotted on the court until 7:20 PM, about 20 minutes after the originally scheduled time. The game finally tipped off a little after 7:30 PM.

The delay might not come as a shock given we’re entering the holiday season, and many are sure to be travelling to the Big Apple for Thanksgiving festivities.

Still, one would think that a program located in New York City would take that into consideration.

In LIU’s defense, they reportedly left campus at 4 PM, meaning the 11-mile trek took them longer than three hours. To those that have never driven in New York, that seems ridiculous.

For those that reside in the city, though, it was to be expected.

“Probably stuck on the belt parkway… where there is traffic 24/7, but it’s also raining today in NY, sooooo they should have left yesterday to make tip.”

“Driving your team for an evening game NYC a fireable offense!”

“Thanksgiving week traffic is brutal in NYC.”

“Can confirm. Just spent two hours trying to leave Manhattan.”

“This is the most New York thing ever.”

“Anyone who has driven around NYC can relate.”

The opening tip wasn’t the only thing that began late for LIU. Production on the court was slow to start as the Sharks fell behind by 16 points in the first half of play.

They’d battle back to cut the deficit to single digits in the second half before falling 77-67.
