What was once a promising Ohio State Buckeyes basketball season has fallen apart in epic fashion. Following a win over now-big ten title contenders Northwestern on New Year’s Day, the Buckeyes were 10-3 and looked to be a lock for the NCAA tournament.
But, since then, they’re a dismal 1-14, a performance that might cost Chris Holtmann his job. It’s the largest skid in program history since the 1997-1998 season when the team lost 17 games in a row. They’ve all but clinched a losing season for the first time since 2004.
The Buckeyes welcomed a team squarely on the bubble in Penn State to Columbus Thursday night in what was a must-win game for the Nittany Lions.
And, Ohio State trailed by four points with less than 30 seconds to go, with possession of the basketball. What happened after may be one of the saddest possessions of basketball you will ever see.
Never has there been a 23-second stretch more indicative of how a teamโs season is going than the end of the Ohio State game tonight pic.twitter.com/4uX3q5eUUe

If you want to sum up the season of a team that is 3-14 in conference play, that is the possession to do it.
The Twitter comedians were out.
Season was just a nightmare. I mean OSU is not necessarily an elite program but they're NEVER at the bottom of the B1G. Just one of those years where everything went wrong.

They should have tried making it.

Somehow, this was a Quad 1 win for Penn State, and as an alum, I will take it.
