Omarion Cooper is returning to Florida State after playing one season of college football at Colorado. His time in Boulder did not meet his expectations and he is heading back to where he started.

It is an unfortunate reality for someone who had so much hope for his time with Coach Prime.

The rising senior announced his commitment on Tuesday. The Seminoles are thrilled to have him back.

Cooper, who Deion Sanders recruited at Jackson State, was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2021 out of Lehigh Senior High School in Florida and chose Florida State over 27 other offers. He played 20 games in two seasons for Mike Norvell and started seven games over that span. The end of his freshman year was especially promising, but a leg injury hindered him as a sophomore.

As his junior season approached, the Seminoles chose to move him to safety. It was likely that Omarion Cooper was going to start at his new position in 2023 after a great spring practice period.

However, Sanders coaxed him out to Colorado before that could happen.

What stood out was the beautiful town and landscape! The amazing people there and the coaching staff have lots of NFL experience. Why not get coached by the best and a head coach who is from the same city as me?

That clearly did not end up playing out as expected, and he is not the only Buffaloes standout to have a similar experience. They are coming off of yet another transfer portal exodus for the second year in a row.

And there is some irony in that.

Shedeur Sanders and his father questioned what they were actually losing with all of the players that left, implying that they would never see the field anyway. Cooper going back to Florida State debunks that thought.

He is going to plug right in to the secondary as a strong piece at both corner and safety. Meanwhile, Colorado remains in desperate need of depth at both of those positions…

Cooper was bamboozled by Coach Prime and things didn’t work out. Norvell and his staff in Tallahassee know he’s a dog and welcomed back a player who made 37 total tackles with five pass deflections, one sack and one forced fumble last year.

The grass is not always greener! Omarion Cooper would be the first to say so.
