Pat Narduzzi got the best of Neal Brown when Pitt topped West Virginia in the Backyard Brawl in September, and he managed to do so yet again after trolling the rival head coach over a recent comment he probably wishes he had back.

The West Virginia Mountaineers headed into the year with fairly high expectations after Neal Brown led the team to a 9-4 record in 2023, which was far and away their best showing during a five-year tenure where he’d previously only been able to post a single winning season.

However, things really haven’t panned out as the team hoped.

West Virginia hasn’t been an unmitigated disaster this season, as they’re currently 3-3 and can take just a little bit of solace in knowing two of those losses came to teams that are currently sitting in the Top 10 (#3 Penn State and #9 Iowa State).

The third one probably stings the most, as WVU was ultimately unable to outlast Pitt in the 107th iteration of the Backyard Brawl that more than lived up to its name thanks to the back-and-forth nature of a showdown where the Panthers walked away with the 38-34 victory.

In the wake of his team’s loss to the Cyclones on Saturday, West Virginia coach Neal Brown firmly inserted his foot into his mouth when he answered a question about why fans should keep coming to games if the Mountaineers aren’t going to be able to give them a win, saying:

“I get that they want to win. But what I would say is: Did they have a good time? Did they enjoy it?

It was a pretty good atmosphere. I’m assuming they had a pretty good time tailgating, so if they’re in the deal for enjoyment then I would come back. I looked at the weather and it’s going to be nice again.”

It wasn’t the kind of quote that inspires a lot of confidence in someone who gets paid $4 million a year to win football games, and Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi couldn’t stop himself from having some fun at Brown’s expense with the caption he opted to go with while posting some pictures from practice on Thursday.

Well played.
