Patrick Reed is already to move on from the latest cheating accusations.

The cleverly named ‘Tree Gate’, which followed Rory and Patrick Reed’s ‘Tee Gate‘, is much ado about nothing.

It is as simple as this: Patrick Reed saw his ball enter a tree but wasn’t sure which. He described the markings on his ball to a rules official. That official alone was responsible for identifying the ball in the tree and that official is the one responsible for misidentifying which tree the ball landed in.

But the golf world couldn’t leave it at that. Brandel Chamblee, who was sued by Patrick Reed, released a video where he went over a clip of Reed’s lost ball with a finetooth comb.

Patrick Reed Releases Statement On Hero Dubai Desert Classic

Reed’s statement, which is a screenshot of a text concersation on his iPhone and not the Notes app, reads:

“Some people love controversy. But what happened on the 17th hole at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic was a non-issue.

As the DP World Tour confirmed, I was not asked to identify the tree my ball struck (that was done by the ShotLink volunteers and several marshals), I was asked to describe the distinctive markings on the ball I was playing.

I am looking forward to this week’s Asian Tour Flaghship event at Royal Greens.”

Surely the golf world is ready to move on and the replies to Patrick Reed’s tweet are reasonable, right?

Well, Patrick Reed turned off his replies so we’ll have to look at the quote tweets.

Someone joked it was advice that led to Patrick posting this:

I’m glad I’m not the only person wondering why he posted this as a text message screenshot:

Doubtful, but funny. I personally would’ve ran a statement by my wife if I was in his shoes:

A lot of folks are wondering who this text conversation is with… We’ll never know. Time to move on.
