The golf world is in mourning on Saturday after the passing of 30-year-old PGA Tour veteran Grayson Murray.

Murray, 30, passed away just one day after withdrawing from this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge after complaining of an undisclosed illness.

We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan said in statement. “The PGA TOUR is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.

“I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play,” Commissioner Monahan continued. “They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes.”

The tour made grief counselors at both this weekend’s PGA TOUR and Korn Ferry Tour events. Though they opted to continue both events.

Murray was one of the Tour’s most charismatic players.

The Raleigh, North Carolina native was a two-time PGA Tour winner, including the Sony Open earlier this year. He defeated Byeong An and Keegan Bradley to win.
