The Philadelphia 76ers Unveiled A Comically Small Allen Iverson Statue That’s Honestly Insulting

There are few athletes more beloved in the city of Philadelphia than Allen Iverson.

So you can imagine the excitement when the Philadelphia 76ers announced that Iverson was set to receive a statue on The Legends Walk, located in front of the team’s training complex.

But that excitement soon turned to disgust when the Sixers unveiled the trophy on Friday and it turned out to be significantly less than impressive.

The “statue” itself looked nice. But it was also about two feet tall. More of a statuette than anything.

Fellow 76ers legends Charles Barkley, Wilt Chamberlain, Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks, Moses Malone, Billy Cunningham, Hal Greer, Bobby Jones and Dolph Schayes already had statues on the legends walk.

Each of which are relatively small in stature. So perhaps fans should have known what was coming. But Iverson’s seems like the smallest by far.

Of course, Twitter was quick to come with the jokes after seeing what the Sixers came up with.

Philadelphia selected Iverson with the first pick in the 1996 NBA Draft. He went on to play 12 seasons for the Siers, including each of his first 11. He ranks second in franchise history in career points (19,931), third in points per game (27.6). Iverson also won the 2001 NBA MVP en route to leading the team to the NBA finals. He’s won of five 76ers players, along with Chamberlain, Erving, Malone and Embiid, with an NBA MVP to his name.
