The Pittsburgh Pirates have had a tumultuous start to their 2025 season, to say the least. And that’s not even counting the fact that they’re currently in last place in the National League Central.
Beyond just their poor play on-the-field — even ace pitcher Paul Skenes isn’t quite as dominant as he was last year — the Pittsburgh Pirates have faced numerous issues off-the-field so far this season.
The fans are openly rebelling against the owners, calling for them to sell the team. A 20-year-old fan suffered serious injuries after falling 21 feet from the stands at PNC Park, prompting an investigation into stadium safety measures. A Roberto Clemente tribute was removed (and later returned) from the right field wall and replaced with an ad for Surfside Hard Ice Tea.
The team are apparently committed to doing at least one good thing this season, however, as it was announced that July 19 will be Mac Miller bobblehead day, with the bobblehead itself actually being genuinely well-designed.
The Pirates’ game on July 19 will be the second in a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox.

Mac Miller, a famously proud Pittsburgh Native, passed away in 2018 at the age of 26-years-old, just a few weeks after the release of his Grammy-nominated album Swimming.
In the years since Miller’s passing, due to his massive output as a musician, two posthumous albums have been released: Circles in 2020 and Balloonerism earlier this year.
