High School Football Title Contender Denies Hiring Alabama’s Most Infamous Coach To Join Notorious Cheater

Rush Propst is rumored to be joining Jeremy Pruitt at Plainview High.


Rush Propst is rumored to be teaming up with former Tennessee football coach Jeremy Pruitt at Plainview High School in Rainsville, Alabama. If it happens, it will represent a reunion as the duo previously coached together at Hoover.

Will they set out on a revenge tour in the Yellowhammer State?

Both leaders have been linked to major cheating scandals. Headlines would be sure to follow. The potential tag team has already stirred up controversy. Reports surfaced Tuesday suggesting the pair will join forces with a program on the verge of an Alabama championship.

Are they true?

Rainsville is located in the northeast corner of the state of Alabama, positioned in Dekalb County. It’s about 130 miles northwest of Atlanta, 60 miles southwest of Chattanooga, and 100 miles northeast of Birmingham.

The city it home to the Plainview High School Bears, a program that finished 13-1 last year and lost in the Final Four of the 4A state playoffs. The team was one score away from a championship game appearance.

The Pruitts run Plainview football. Dale Pruitt has been with the Bears for nearly four decades. His son, Jeremy, joined the staff after a dismissal from the University of Tennessee.

Jeremy Pruitt was handed a six-year show cause by the NCAA stemming from a recruiting scandal in which nearly 200 infractions were uncovered. He will forever be linked to dirty money and McDonald’s bags. He was fired in 2021 and has been essentially blackballed from college football, at least up through 2029.

With that said, he’s found success in high school football. The father-son duo teamed up to lead the Bears to a perfect regular season in 2025. Their playoff run ended just shy of a title opportunity. The school is rumored to be adding a new member to the coaching staff to get over the hump.

Rush Propst to Plainview?

A rumor surfaced this week suggesting Propst was headed to Rainsville. He is fresh off a 2A state championship at Coosa Christian. He landed the interim head coaching role following the suspension of Mark O’Bryant. Propst claimed his title with a 29-22 win over Lanett.

It was Propst’s eighth championship. He’s won hardware at nearly every stop across the states of Alabama and Georgia. Unfortunately, controversy often overshadows his dominance.

Propst rarely survives more than a few seasons in one spot. The coach grew to national fame at Hoover thanks to the MTV reality series Two-A-Days.

Hoover won five state championships in six years with Propst at the helm. He was vicious towards his players, though, and eventually resigned for a plethora of reasons to include fudging grades and cheating on his wife with a school administrator.

He was hired a state over the very next season. His temper forced a suspension at Colquitt High School in Georgia after he headbutt a player.

While he won a 2015 state title, Propst was fired in 2019.

A lengthy investigation found that he was likely dispensing undisclosed “pills” to his players, which became a recurring issue. He also failed to show up to 21 half or whole days of work without notifying his boss.

Prospt was later hired at Valdosta High, where his team was featured on the Netflix series Titletown High. Again, trouble followed.

He was cited for lack of institutional control amid a recruiting scandal involving a one-armed booster. The Wildcats were forced to forfeit seven wins.

Despite the issues, he is back on the sidelines. Whispers suggest he’s headed to Plainview. School leaders deny the claims.

Plainview High School is not hiring Rush Propst.

Dale Pruitt responded to the online rumors with a vehement denial. “(It’s) just internet crap,” he said of the supposed hiring. “It ain’t true.” Principal Nick Ledbetter confirmed with a statement of his own.

Propst is not done coaching. He said the following after his title win in 2025:

“I’m gonna coach, whether it’s at Coosa or somewhere else. I’m open for business. I want to finish my career in the right way. I think whether that’s in Georgia or Alabama, it doesn’t matter. I want to coach about another six or seven years.

“I’d very much like to go to a place and build a national brand. I built Hoover and then Colquitt County into state powerhouse programs… I’m wide open as far as my future is concerned, but I know this: I’m not done coaching.”

That may very well be true. Rush Propst could soon end up on the sidelines with another football power. It does not appear that opportunity will come with Jeremy Pruitt at Plainview High School in Alabama despite the noise.
