An attempt at the longest field goal in NFL history has resulted in the longest play in NFL history. It was an amazing play by the Jaguars and a complete disaster for the Cardinals.

Just before halftime, head coach Kliff Kingsbury sent out his kicker, Matt Prater, to attempt a 68-yarder. Had it gone in, it would have surpassed his own NFL-record 64-yard field goal, which he hit back in 2013 with the elevation in Denver.

The 37-year-old did not have the altitude on his side on Sunday and his kick landed a few yards short of the uprights. On the receiving end, Jacksonville put return specialist Jamal Agnew back for a possible return.

He caught the kick in the back of the end zone and took off up the field. With a team of blockers in front of him, Agnew made a man miss at the 25-yard-line, evaded another at the 35, got a block at the 50 and ran untouched into the end zone.

The 109-yard touchdown return is now tied for the longest play in NFL history. Antonio Cromartie took back a pick-six in 2007 and Cordarrelle Patterson returned a kickoff 109 yards in 2013.

109 yards, of course, is as long as you can go in football.

Gus Johnson, who has had a very busy couple of weeks, was on the call and his presence was the perfect addition to a chaotic play. He is the best in the business when it comes to losing his mind and he certainly did just that!

Here is how it looked from the stands:
