Raheem Mostert’s Quote About Tua Tagovailoa’s Latest Concussion Is Yet Another Bad Look For The Dolphins

After becoming the latest face of concussions in professional football earlier this season following a violent hit against the Cincinnati Bengals, the third-year Dolphins signal-caller suffered yet another head injury against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Now that Tua is back in the concussion protocol for the second time this season, the Dolphins are back in the NFL’s spotlight once again, and this latest quote from Raheem Mostert certainly doesn’t frame the franchise in a particularly favorable light.

“I was shocked. I totally didn’t realize that Tua went through that. But it also kind of made sense towards the end of the game. You know, I was asking myself in the huddle, like, ‘What are we doing?’ ‘What’s going on?’ Not specifically him, but the whole aura of the offense in the huddle. But that’s just how ball goes, you would think. But then to come to find out he did have a concussion, that kind of sucks,” Mostert said to reporters earlier this week. [via]

The issue with this quote is, of course, that a clearly-concussed Tua (clearly in the sense that Mostert, in the midst of playing in an NFL game, could tell that something was off) was able to make his way past the team doctors and back onto the field.

With Tua already ruled out for the Dolphins’ crucial Week 17 matchup against the New England Patriots, Miami — currently the 7th and final seed in the AFC Playoffs (ahead of the Patriots, no less) — will turn to veteran QB Teddy Bridgewater as the team tries to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

In addition to the Dolphins, the Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens are also set to make the AFC playoffs as Wild Card teams.
