The Los Angeles Rams have officially signed former New England Patriots’ first-round pick, running back Sony Michel, for his second stint with the team.
The announcement came from the team, marking Michel’s return to the Rams after a successful 2021 season that culminated in a Super Bowl victory against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Michel’s journey in the NFL has seen him donning different uniforms, as he has previously spent time with the Miami Dolphins and the Los Angeles Chargers. However, it appears that the Rams see value in his abilities and have given him another chance to make an impact on the field.

With the Rams, Michel will likely be vying for a roster spot as a backup to the talented Cam Akers. This development raises questions about the performance of other running backs on the team, namely Kyren Williams and Zach Evans.
The fact that Michel has been brought in suggests that Williams and Evans may not have demonstrated enough potential during offseason practices to secure their positions.
If Michel makes the cut, he will bring a wealth of experience to the Rams’ backfield. As the most seasoned backup on the roster, he would likely assume the role of the team’s second-string running back during early-down plays.
Michel’s NFL journey began when he was selected as the 31st overall pick by the New England Patriots in the 2018 NFL Draft. While he didn’t fulfill the lofty expectations associated with a first-round pick, Michel’s performance wasn’t a total disappointment.
During his three-year tenure with the Patriots, he failed to achieve a 1,000-yard rushing season but showcased flashes of talent and contributed significantly to the team’s success in the playoffs.
In his 65 career games, Michel has rushed for a total of 3,243 yards on 779 carries, averaging 4.2 yards per rush. He has also found the end zone 20 times, demonstrating his ability to contribute as a scoring threat.
