Ref In Chiefs Game Reacts To Offsides Penalty Controversy ‘He Was So Offsides, He Was Blocking Officials View Of Ball’

NFL ref Carl Cheffers is responding to the controversy stemming from this weekend’s big game.

Late in the fourth quarter of the ChiefsBills game, wide receiver Kadarius Toney was called for an offensive offsides penalty when he lined up incorrectly, costing the team a go-ahead touchdown.

Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid were angry that the refs didn’t warn the team about the offensive offsides before it was called.

“Normally I get a warning before something like that happens in a big game. A bit embarrassing in the NFL for that to take place” said Reid while speaking to the media.

NFL ref Carl Cheffers, who made the call on the field, explained his decision to a pool reporter.

According to Cheffers, he didn’t give a warning because the offside was obvious.

“Certainly, no warning is required, especially if they are lined up so far offsides where they’re actually blocking our view of the ball.”

“If it’s egregious enough, it would be beyond a warning. So really regardless of whether or not he was warned at other times during the day, if it was an egregious alignment to where he was over the ball — whether he had warnings or not — it would still be a foul.”
